Hey there, my name is Catie & I am the salon owner at Tribe Hair Company in the historical, gorgeous Athens, Georgia. I met Diana years ago when I was in college (for something else) and was going to her salon to have my hair done. It was the most beautiful salon I had ever seen, and it was buzzing with this magical energy that left you craving more. Years later, when I went to cosmetology school, I knew I HAD to work for her.

Diana knew how to run a super busy salon like a well-oiled machine. From the time I hit the ground as a junior stylist, I was stacked with clients, and I learned quickly in an environment that was so rich with seasoned professionals and people who were ready to lift me up and help me out when I needed some guidance.

The salon’s culture and vibe were always geared towards excellence and positivity, and this was a perfect breeding ground for a new stylist. I loved working with Diana because she listened to me as if I were the only person in the room, and she constantly encouraged me in a way that made me believe in myself. It changed the trajectory of my whole career.

I think that any student of Cosmetology that is looking to grow their confidence, gain direction, become better at their skill set & learn how to run the business side more productively would benefit from working alongside Diana. Hey y’all! I’m Nathan Altman, and I am the owner of Model Citizen Salon company in beautiful Athens, Georgia.

I’ve been in the industry for over 22 years. First as an assistant, then as an apprentice, and then as a full-fledged hair stylist. I started working with Diana just as I was transitioning from assistant to apprentice.

At the time, I was so grateful that there was a space for me in Diana’s salon. I had interviewed at two other salons in the area, and when I walked into Diana’s salon, I felt such relief. I felt I had found a salon home and a group of individuals that were welcoming and supportive. As a young baby gay in the South, it was SO wonderful to have that community.

I also remember very clearly Diana’s drive and sense of purpose when I first met her. She saw my raw potential, let me know it was valuable, and then went about providing opportunities for me that would nurture and grow that potential.

I was promoted to an Educator in the salon about a year into working there. I was able to earn many amazing education opportunities that took me to California, New York, and Miami. I was then promoted to Lead Educator and finally Creative Director for the company.

I am so grateful for the opportunities I was provided within Diana’s salon.

My trajectory now, as a salon owner, is to pay forward the opportunities I was given. I want to help the new generation of professional hair gurus learn, grow, empower themselves, and stretch as salon professionals.

City Salon in Athens, GA, is where it all began for me eighteen years ago. I was 26 and knew it was now or never if I wanted to be a hairdresser. I also knew I wanted so badly the opportunity to work at City Salon. I wanted to learn from the best and to be mentored by Diana Paquet. And I found my way in.

I started as Kandice (Burkhalter) Wilkes’ assistant but quickly began assisting in a larger capacity at City Salon. I was in my first quarter of cosmetology school at Athens Tech, had moved back in with my parents, and was also working a second job serving and bartending at Olive Garden, all while assisting full-time at City Salon.

The hands-on experience and knowledge that I was gaining while assisting at City Salon was far better than attending cosmetology school. I had approached Diana about becoming an apprentice. She said yes, under one condition that a write a letter to the head of the cosmetology department at Athens Tech. She knew the importance of never burning those bridges and always being humble and thankful for the knowledge and education that one receives. Lesson number one from this amazing mentor.

Fast forward, Diana began to ensure I was being taught in-house. From consultation to shampooing, color application, cutting, and all the in-betweens. I gained so much knowledge, encouragement, and education beyond City Salon. I was being sent to NYC to train at Bumble and Bumble and to California to GOLDWELL and KMS. All that was made possible by a leader and mentor that believed in me and wanted nothing more than my success.

So here I am eighteen years later, I am the top producing stylist in a high-end salon in Athens, GA, Salon dm3. My education has continued from coast to coast and in London. However, I have never forgotten nor have ever been more humbly thankful for the solid foundation I received from Diana. She believed in me and encouraged me. I owe a great part of my success to her so many years later.
